WHAT: In this multi-level workshop we will build your knowledge of tippy hoop from the ground up. We will start the 4 week session with introduction and basics. Then in week two we will work up to more advanced poses and sequences. Week three will be what you all were waiting for: momentum moves and drops! We will finish the session with duo work - two people one tippy hoop!
WHO: Rachel Speights aka Rachel Marie Lamarr is a chemist by day and an aspiring aerial dancer by night. She fell in love with aerial dance because it is both technical and artistic. She began her aerial journey in 2013 and quickly found her circus home and family at Miraas Circus arts (now Gravity Aerial Arts).
Though her first love was aerial fabric, Rachel has since continued to develop her passion through the study of other apparatuses. She gets excited by the prospect of transitioning knowledge from one apparatus to another and has therefore begun studying unique and invented apparatuses. Rachel is also experienced in partner aerials, having performed in group acts with up to 8 people as well as one-on-one hand to hand performances.
Rachel has been seen performing at Santa Fe Renaissance Festival, Carnivale de Sensuale, among other ambient and choreographed performances. She is thrilled to often be a part of Gravity Aerial Arts showcases and productions.
Rachel’s duo partner, Meg Fitzpatrick, will help teach on week 4.
Meg Fitzpatrick has been doing aerial since 2015 and got her start in Boston doing pole. When she found Lyra, she knew she had found love. Meg moved to Denver in 2016 and began training at Gravity Aerial Arts, and quickly found her circus family. In 2018 Meg was hired to perform at Carnivale De Sensuale along with friend and fellow performer Rachel, and thus the Valkyrie were born. This duo performs all over Denver on multiple invented apparatus, but continuously return to their favorite, the Tippy Lyra. The Valkyrie can be found on Facebook and Instagram and love story-driven acts with a little bit of silliness and a lot of glitter!
