Contortion and All Level Flexibility

WHAT: While there are many ways to learn and teach the art of contortion or to learn and teach how to become flexible, there are many ambiguities that are questioned, however not answered very often. Within this workshop, we will discuss the finite rules that will determine the safety success for teachers to their students, assuring and minimizing the risk of injury for all. Understanding the concrete rules of this topic will help support a solid foundation of limitations for ones self to both student and teacher, allowing a greater and faster rate of success.

WHO: 0tgo Waller is a professional contortionist as well as the creator and owner of Flexible Body Art LLC technique and school. Otgo grew up in the shadow of the holy mountain Bogd Uul near the Mongolian capital city of Ulaanbaatar. When Otgo was 7 years old she dreamed of becoming a contortionist, and by 13 years old Otgo was one of the best contortionists in the world. In 1980, Otgo graduated from the Mongolian State Circus, specializing in Contortion Art. She also appeared on Mongolia’s postage stamp as one of the most prestigious contortionists in Mongolia. In 1991, the Ringling Brothers & Barnum Bailey circus discovered Otgo and she immigrated to America. After arriving in America, Otgo’s career exploded.

Otgo was featured on the NBC, Discovery Channel, SyFy Network, PAX Network, MTV, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Donny and Marie Show,” “ Ripley’s Believe it or Not,” and E Network’s “Talk Soup.” She has also been a featured performer with Cirque du Soliel’s “O” Show, the NBA halftime shows, NHL halftime shows, NCAA halftime shows, and Britney Spears “MTV Video Music Awards.”

Otgo Waller’s choreographic works have been featured at the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening and Closing ceremonies, The International Contortion Convention, and the San Diego Circus.

Raised in a small town in central New York, Jenny was a child who always loved creating motion.  Even in the late hours of the evening when she should have been sleeping, she would be up dancing around her room, expressing her thoughts through movement. Jenny started taking dance classes at the age of 3 and by the age of 17, Jenny had studied ballet, jazz, tap, and her favorites..hip-hop and contemporary.  At that age she then also discovered her love for circus and aerial arts.  Seeing her first aerial performance of Cirque du Soleil's "Quidam," Jenny was intensely captivated by the magic of aerial movement and flying above the ground. Jenny went off to college at Notre Dame de Namur University.   During her time at the University, Jenny studied Theatre Arts and helped to build a Dance Minor for the school and received a Deans Award for building it. She finished school with a Bachelors in Theatre Arts and the created Dance Minor.  Upon graduating, Jenny moved to San Francisco and began training at San Francisco Circus Center.  She was also accepted in to Acrosports City Circus and became a part of their company and training program in 2010-2011.  From there Jenny studied with coach Marina Luna on the essence and building blocks of her corde-lisse act and trained acrobatics with coach Dominik Wyss. In 2012, Jenny worked with coach Jeremy Sheets, Lead coach of the San Francisco Circus Center Aerial Pre-Professional Program, to solidify her aerial corde-lisse act.

Jenny now has debuted and performed her rope act in places from San Francisco, CA , to Seattle, WA, and Berlin, Germany. She has also performed on her chains for the Shadowdance Festival in both 2016 and 2017.
